A 27-year-old female sustained critical injuries after being shot Saturday in the parking garage of Missouri’s Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles.
The unnamed victim underwent surgery at a nearby hospital after being shot in the neck around 2:30 a.m., as reported by St. Louis, Mo. KTVI television station.
The St. Charles Police Department was notified and hurried to the location.
The victim, located on the second level of the parking garage, managed to inform the police about her shooter's identity.
A little while later, Calvin Koong, 50, from St. Louis, was charged with first-degree domestic assault, first-degree kidnapping, and armed criminal activity.
He stayed in detention at the St. Charles County Jail as of late Saturday. His bail was established at $500K.
Authorities stated that he was the partner of the victim.
According to Missouri TV station KSDK, the victim was in a car belonging to Koong, as indicated by casino surveillance footage.
She was seated in the driver's seat with the driver's door ajar. The woman seemingly attempted to exit the vehicle. Koong shoved the woman into the car, and the two engaged in what police referred to as a struggle.
She finally managed to escape from the vehicle. However, a few feet away, she collapsed onto the garage pavement after being injured.
Kind-hearted individuals quickly came to assist her and offer immediate first aid. They also notified the authorities.
Koong attempted to escape, but was prevented from exiting the vicinity by a concrete barricade in the parking garage.
A security guard from Ameristar Casino quickly showed up and saw Koong.
The officer detained the individual. He admitted to the guard, “I fired at her." “I fired at her.” KSDK reported that Koong later admitted to the police.
Authorities apprehended Koong. They additionally examined the suspect's vehicle and discovered a weapon. It was taken as proof.
The local prosecutors received the case. If found guilty, Koong may face imprisonment.
Authorities did not disclose a reason for the shooting.
The injured person was swiftly taken to the hospital's ER. No updates on the victim's condition were available as of late Saturday. Police did not immediately disclose details regarding her injuries.
Charges may be elevated if the woman fails to survive.
