The dad of the individual who passed away from what seems to be a fentanyl overdose at Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut is attributing a significant portion of the responsibility to the staff at the gaming venue.
Ethan Bherwani could have lived through the May 18, 2021 event if the tribal casino's reactions had been swifter, his father, Kamal Bherwani, a former New York City public official, recently stated to The New York Post.
The younger Bherwani, just 22 then, was at the casino celebrating his college graduation when he toppled out of a chair at a blackjack table. While he remained motionless on the floor, it is claimed that no dealers, pit bosses, or other casino staff came to Bherwani's aid.
Four and a half minutes after his fall, a staff member from the casino finally looked in on Bherwani. According to the Post, EMTs arrived around 11 minutes after Bherwani initially collapsed from the chair.
The team attempted to perform CPR, but they were unable to bring him back to life.
Bherwani was taken to the nearby Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced brain dead. He passed away nine days afterward.
"If they had gotten to him in three minutes, he’d be completely alive,” Kamal Bherwani told the Post.
Tests revealed that Ethan Bherwani had ingested fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol the night prior to losing consciousness. The Post reported that unidentified casino patrons tried to help Bherwani while he was on the floor, but Mohegan Sun staff instructed the well-meaning individuals to step back from him.
Kamal Bherwani sued Mohegan Sun, alleging that the casino acted with negligence. The Connecticut tribal court dismissed that suit, but the Post stated that a new lawsuit could be initiated.
"My son was going to law school. He was cooped up during the pandemic and celebrating his graduation; he made a mistake … but it should not have cost him his life,” his father further told the reporter.
Kamal Bherwani is urging New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) to deny the Mohegan tribe's attempt to obtain a casino license in New York City due to the casino's reaction during his son's medical emergency.
Just prior to his passing, Ethan Bherwani acquired fentanyl-laced substances from an individual at the casino known as Jerrard Santiago, who was subsequently apprehended.
Santiago has since admitted guilt to two charges of possessing with the intent to distribute, as well as distributing, a controlled substance. He has not been sentenced to prison yet.
Casino.org contacted Mohegan Sun for a response. No prompt statement was given.
Promoted casinos refer to online gambling platforms that are actively marketed and recommended by various sources, including websites, affiliates, and influencers. These casinos often feature prominently in advertisements and top lists due to their attractive offers, high-quality games, and reputable services.
Instead of having to go to a real casino, players may enjoy their favorite games whenever they want, from any location. Those who reside far away from a land-based casino or have hectic schedules will find this particularly enticing.
In comparison to land-based casinos, online casinos frequently have a greater selection of games. This covers many kinds of table games, live dealer games, slots, and specialty games.
The security and anonymity that come with playing online are valued by many players. Without the possible distractions or social pressure of actual casinos, they can play their favorite games.
Numerous payment options are available at online casinos, including bank transfers, e-wallets, credit/debit cards, and even cryptocurrency. It is simpler for players to deposit and withdraw money thanks to this flexibility.
