A dealer at Rivers Casino Pittsburgh was taken into custody on Friday for multiple purported violations during blackjack play.

Jamie L. Smith, 33, from Pittsburgh, Pa., faces accusations of mismanaging cards on approximately 192 occasions.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Smith is said to have overcompensated casino patrons for their winning and losing wagers, neglected to gather funds, and took chips from the chip rack.

The events occurred over four days from October 26 to November 2.

According to TribLive.com, Smith’s actions led to a loss of $21,869 for the casino. The illicit activity was recorded on casino surveillance footage for 31 hours and observed by agents, according to the police.

Smith faced charges of theft through unlawful acquisition, conspiracy, and intentionally manipulating a game of chance. She has been released from the Allegheny County Jail and is set to appear in Pittsburgh Municipal Court on November 20.

Her case was transferred to local prosecutors.

On Thursday, five suspects were brought to court following the dismantling of an unlawful online gambling ring by New York authorities.

The men resided in either Nassau County or Suffolk County located on Long Island.

The arrests came after an inquiry into a purported illegal online sportsbook that was initiated in July 2023 by Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly's office.

Prosecutors stated that the operation was reportedly managed by Anthony Frascone, 75, from East Meadow, NY, and Anthony Pellegrino, 59, from Merrick, NY. According to Donnelly, both individuals faced seven charges of first-degree promoting gambling, first-degree criminal usury, 54 charges of second-degree promoting gambling, and fourth-degree conspiracy.

Both entered pleas of not guilty and are set to appear in court on December 18. Prosecutors stated that they could face five to 15 years in prison if found guilty.

Other defendants include:

  • Philip Carucci, 59, who’s charged with first-degree promoting gambling, first-degree possession of gambling records, and fifth-degree conspiracy.
  • Frank LoNigro, 51, who’s charged with six counts of first-degree promoting gambling, one count of second-degree promoting gambling, and one count of fifth-degree conspiracy.
  • Joseph Pietaro, 57. who’s charged with 50 counts of second-degree promoting gambling and one count of fifth-degree conspiracy. Pietaro is a former New York Police Department officer, Patch reported.

Each of the three suspects pleaded not guilty.

These casinos often feature prominently in advertisements and top lists due to their attractive offers, high-quality games, and reputable services.

Instead of having to go to a real casino, players may enjoy their favorite games whenever they want, from any location. Those who reside far away from a land-based casino or have hectic schedules will find this particularly enticing.

In comparison to land-based casinos, online casinos frequently have a greater selection of games. This covers many kinds of table games, live dealer games, slots, and specialty games.

PRIVACY AND SECURITY

The security and anonymity that come with playing online are valued by many players. Without the possible distractions or social pressure of actual casinos, they can play their favorite games.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Numerous payment options are available at online casinos, including bank transfers, e-wallets, credit/debit cards, and even cryptocurrency. It is simpler for players to deposit and withdraw money thanks to this flexibility.
